Summer Refit at Maine Yacht Center - Portland, Maine 2021

We arrived at Maine Yacht Center in June, 2021 where Joli was hauled and moved into the work building for the summer. It was very strange and unusual for us to leave the boat for so long since we have mostly done the work ourselves.  We are slowly turning an old race boat into a very comfortable and FAST cruising boat. Bryan's research prior to selecting a boat yard paid off as we found everyone at MYC to be professional, conscientious, experienced and talented. MYC completed the following work on Joli: new sinks, countertop & backsplash in the galley; demolish & reconfigure triple berth area (now The Bar); install new autopilot; new vang & backstay hydraulic panel; move engine & generator exhausts and bilge discharge from the transom to underneath; lower & inspect the rudder post and repack; new steering cable & chain; replace 6 existing through hull fittings and add 2 for the generator; new generator; new prop and transmission; wire an inverter and battery-to-battery charger; and a few other maintenance items. We are very pleased with everything that was accomplished and Joli is all the more safe and comfortable.  Our sea trial identified a couple minor issues that have been resolved and we're now headed south. Big kudos to everyone at Maine Yacht Center!

The tile backsplash was cracked, chipping off and dated, the Corian countertop was stained and cracked, and the sinks were dented with some rust.

New tile, countertop and sinks

I LOVE MY GALLEY!

Old triple berth area had a fuel tank under the middle berth and a water tank under the bottom berth.

The bottom berth extended beyond the doorway to the master cabin, making the walkway between the berth and the engine room very narrow.

Demolition of the nasty old stuff.

New configuration in progress - new freezer and refrigerator drawers and lots of storage space.

Nice wide walkway back to the master cabin.

New instrument box at the nav station

Storage space under large countertop for our cockpit table

The rudder post was leaking and this old packing was in pretty poor condition. No leaks now!

We were happy to learn the rudder post was in good shape.

Transom before - in need of some love

Transom refurbish in progress

Joli at dock on a foggy morning at Maine Yacht Center - Look at that beautiful transom!

Two new thru-hull fittings for the center cockpit drains

Joli is built like a tank! These plugs are from the solid glass part of the hull under the transom, where the exhausts were moved to; and from the two new through-hulls for the generator.

New Garmin hydraulic autopilot

New hydraulic panel for the boom vang and backstay - old one was leaking and I had to continually clean up hydraulic fluid in the bilge.  YUCK!

New prop - refurbishing the old one was almost as expensive as a new one. The new one has 4 blades instead of 3 and the new transmission allows us to transfer more torque so that the engine is now more efficient. NICE!

New 6 kw Northern Lights generator installation in progress
